About The Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Chevrolet pickup trucks form a major part of the history of pickup trucks in general, and the Silverado 1500 is the result of careful development spanning nearly a century. You can’t beat that kind of expertise, and that’s why the Silverado 1500 is such an unbeatable truck. With a huge range of trims and drivetrains, the Silverado 1500 is a standout for versatility. It can be outfitted for hauling, long highway towing trips, offroading, or all of the above. With an excellent towing capacity, an available diesel engine, and multiple offroad-equipped trims, the Silverado 1500 can be your go-to vehicle for whatever you need to do. It’s comfortable too, with a spacious interior and the latest in technology for everything from trailering to listening to music.

What the Critics Say

“It remains what it’s always been: a hardworking, full-size pickup truck ready for work wherever it’s called for, whether at construction sites, warehouses or ranches. It can also tow your boat, trailer, or other such plaything while making for a convenient family hauler. Or it can be all of those things.” – Car & Driver

“The Silverado 1500 gets a shoutout for its use of technology. The infotainment system is available with a large 13.4-inch touchscreen and benefits from easy-to-read graphics and quick responses to user inputs. On LT and higher trim levels, drivers can leverage the truck’s Google-based voice recognition system to make infotainment interactions easier and less distracting. Features such as trailer tire pressure sensors and auxiliary rearview cameras make towing safer and reduce stress, while GM’s Super Cruise allows for hands-free highway driving.” – Edmunds

What’s New for 2025

Some small changes to equipment for 2025. The first is the addition of two new paint colors, Cypress Gray and Riptide Blue Metallic. And more good news, the Trail Boss trims now have standard all-terrain tires.

Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Towing

Choice Of Capable Engines

The engine options for the Silverado 1500 have been a big part of its popularity, including the fact that the Silverado, and its platform-mate the GMC Sierra 1500, are the only two full-size light-duty pickup trucks in North America that offer a diesel option. The standard engine is the TurboMax™, and as the name suggests, it’s turbocharged to make for excellent low-end torque. It produces 310 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque. There are two V8 engines offered, both use EcoTec3 architecture, but they aren’t the same displacement. The first is 5.3 liters and produces 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque. If you want more power, there is a 6.2-liter version that produces 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. Last up is the aforementioned diesel, a 3.0-liter Duramax® that produces 305 horsepower and 496 lb-ft of torque.

Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Offroad Trims

Rugged Capability

The Silverado 1500 can be a comfortable highway towing cruiser, a mud-slinging offroader, or whatever you want in between. For offroading, there are three different trims to choose from that come with standard offroading equipment. Topping the range is the ZR2, which comes with Multimatic DSSV™ dampers and front and rear E-lockers, Off-road cut front bumper and large underbody aluminum skid plates, and huge 33-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory® MT tires. This is one of several trims that comes standard with the Duramax® diesel engine, which provides tons of torque for crawling over rocks. It’s also great for towing, and Duramax®-equipped models can tow up to 13,300 pounds, when properly equipped. Bed sizes of up to 89.1 cubic feet are available, which is also the biggest in the class, and there is a 2,260-pound payload capacity to go with it.

Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Interior

Cutting Edge Technology

The Silverado 1500 has always been a highly capable truck, but as technology improves, Chevrolet is quick to implement tech that makes for better (and easier) towing, offroading, and even just commuting. Much of this can be seen and controlled from the available 13.4-inch infotainment touchscreen and 12.3-inch Driver Information Center. There is a Google built-in option for this system, which gives you familiar apps and controls, as well as the option to use wireless Android Auto or Apple CarPlay. Vital information is also displayed on the available 15-inch multi-color head-up display, so that you can better keep your eyes on the road. And for long trips, there is available Super Cruise with Trailering, a hands-free form of cruise control that even allows you to take your hands off the wheel while towing. This highly advanced technology is also the best way to arrive at your destination feeling better rested.
